[H]ow was I supposed to get excited about the oppression of females if they couldn't be trusted to stay upright during the final minutes of a desperately close promotion campaign?

About This Quote

In a letter to the editor of the Oxford Times, a professor at Oxford University named Dr. Callum Brown responded to a recent article about female soccer players. He said that he was "disgusted" at the article because the writer was "blithely unaware of the risks faced by female athletes." Dr. Brown wrote that he had "no idea how anyone could seriously suggest that women's presence on the pitch is a bad thing for men." He continued: "I have not read about male soccer players being killed during a match due to panic, fear and misplaced aggression.

I have not read about male soccer players being attacked by hysterical spectators or vigilantes." In his response, Dr. Brown ignored the fact that soccer is a contact sport. He also ignores that women athletes are just as vulnerable as men when playing their sport.

It is impossible to be unaware of this fact because there are numerous accounts of female soccer players being injured on the field.
